Ridge Off Roader - 26.04.15

Hi Folks

On Sunday morning Les and I went over to a place called Bledlow Ridge to run in the Ridge Off Roader trail run. There were 2 available distances for adults 10k and 6.2k. As the name suggest the trail run ventures up and down hills and along ridges. On this first attempt I am very glad we opted for the shorter distance.

At about 2k I was faced with what appeared to be the side of a mountain! Like lemmings we traipsed upwards and it beat me....It was difficult to over take people on the track but even so my legs were screaming.

Once up onto the ridge it was a lovely run through woodlands and meadows with views on both sides but having taken the shorter loop and heading back I know the village we started from was on top of the hill.. beaten again and with aching legs I was about to reach the top when the leaders on the 10k race overtook me. Now that really hurt!

Having finished the race we enjoyed a nice breakfast / sausage bap whilst waiting for my friend Colin from work to finish.

The race is hosted by the primary school to raise funds and I would recommend it as it was a lot of fun. Though next time hill training prior to the event will be in order.

In the 6.5k race Les Potts achieved 10th place in 38:24, I came in 17th in 41:44 with Colin fishing in about 44 minutes.

I am seriously going to go back and BEAT those hills! If anyone fancies a real challenge feel free to join me next year.

Flitwick 10K - 19.04.15

Once again our local race came round and this year we had cool and grey conditions with a light wind. we had a good turnout with 8 FlitwickTri runners in the field of 703 runners. we even found time during the build up for a team photo.

As those that have run the race will know it is an undulating course (i.e. hilly) and is not usually a PB course. It is even more impressive then that Fiona, Sian and Les all managed 10K PBs.

Our times were:

Chris Wright              142nd in 45.33
Liam Ko                     239th in 48.58
Les Potts                   294th in 50.42
Pete Jones                462nd in 56.12
Fiona Jones               499th in 57.58
Sarah Eke                  653rd in 1.07.06
Jason Murphy            682nd in 1.11.18
Sian Jones                 700th in 1.19.47

Well done all.

Luton Wardown Parkrun - 18.04.15

This morning Pete and I went over to Luton for the very first Luton Wardown Parkrun. There was a good turnout of 197 runners and lots of volunteers in evidence.

The route was 3.5 laps of the park going around the pond and then round the back of the museum and back to the other end of the lake to start another lap. A largely flat lap with just one small uphill section across a grass area.

Both Pete and I were taking it easy ahead of the Flitwick 10K on Sunday so times were a bit down on usual pace but both were technically PBs.

The times were:

Chris Wright                         52nd in 24.07
Pete Jones                           110th in 27.16

Milton Keynes Parkrun - 11.04.15

This morning Pete, Sian and I went over to the Milton Keynes Parkrun. The weather during the week had been much warmer but in Milton Keynes this morning it was cold, wet and windy. In fact when the race started it was uphill into a strong wind with big cold blobs of rain.

The weather did not put people off though and 489 hardy souls took part in the race which was again over the new route. This time however they got the finish in the right place. Last week the course was a bit short which meant quite a few PBs.

Our results were:

Chris Wright             43rd in 21.59
Pete Jones               228th in 27.29
Sian Jones                451st in 39.05

Milton Keynes Parkrun - 4 April 2015

On Saturday Jason and I decided to give the Milton Keynes Parkrun a go for a change. We weren't however aware that Steve had decided to do the same or that our visit would coincide with a significant change of route for the run.

The run route now goes around North Lake rather than the South Lake and it finishes near the start on the path up to the canal. Sadly it still has the zig-zags to go up.

MK Parkrun is now a very big run and this week there were 549 people taking part.

It proved to be a welcome modification to the route for Steve who clocked a new PB. For Jason it was a continuation of his rehabilitation from injury.

The times were:

Chris Wright                59th in 22.00
Steve Clough               71st in 22.30
Jason Murphy              431st in 34.01

Eton Dorney Duathlon - 4 April 2015

Hi Folks

On Sat 4th I ventured over to Eton Dorney to do their last Duathlon of the year. It was a nice morning if a bit chilly. The rain held off and I even had sun for about 15min.

There were a total of 76 entered in the longer Sprint distance (5k-20k-5k) all fairly strong
team runners. So not surprisingly I was not in the top half of the field. I came in 66th in 1hr 44min. Not a PB but respectable considering the strong wind in one direction.

See my face book page for some images (Peta Joes). I also noticed they have now announced the Silverstone duathlon dates: 14th May / 11th June / 16th July / 18th Sept.
