Bedford Parkrun - 24.01.15

Saturday morning was chilly and the paths at Bedford Park were quite slippery in places which meant it was necessary to ease off the gas a bit and take care during the Parkrun. Thankfully this didn't stop 311 people turning up to run which was outstanding.

There were 5 of us running with Les volunteering as he nurses his injured knee back to full health.

The times were:

Chris Wright                    36th in 22.23
Steve Clough                   47th in 22.56
Fiona Jones                     158th in 28.11
Pete Jones                      159th in 28.12
Sian Jones                       296th in 39.52

Well done everyone.

Fred Hughes 10 mile - 18.01.15

Four of us were in action at the annual Fred Hughes 10 Mile race in St Albans. This year the race was run over the alternative route due to flooding on the original route. It was a very cold day but thankfully the snow that had been forecast a few days ago stayed away.

The race doubles as the Hertfordshire County Championship which ensures there is a very good standard with lots of club runners taking part. This year there were 732 runners taking part.

The event is run over what is generously called an undulating route and it was certainly lumpy, which was especially noticeable towards the end of the run.

Our results were:

Steve Clough                  284th in 1.18.02
Chris Wright                   293rd in 1.18.18
Pete Jones                     563rd in 1.31.19
Fiona Jones                    699th in 1.49.55

Well run everyone.

Bedford Parkrun - 17.01.15

It was a busy Parkrun at Bedford yesterday with 282 people defying the cold weather to get out and have a run.

Our group wasn't over represented but Les was there as a volunteer doing barcode scanning as is knee injury heals and I was there in the role of pacer (at 30 minute target time) ahead of the 10 mile race in St Albans on Sunday.

The sole result was:

Chris Wright                 197th in 30.05.

Bedford Parkrun - 03.01.15

A very wet Saturday morning did not deter 185 hardy runners who took part in this week's Bedford Parkrun. Of these two were Flitwick Tri members.

The times were:

Steve Clough                 27th in 22.52
Sian Jones                     176th in 38.30

Well done both of you.

Chris

Eton Dorney Duathlon - 03.01.15

Hi Folks

Les and I went down to Eton Dorney on a very WET Saturday morning to compete in the first VO2 Eton Duathlon of the year.

We both entered the Sprint race, which consisted of a 5k run, 20k bike ride and a 5k run, along with another 34 hardy souls.

Although I had enjoyed taking part in the event in the past Les had his reservations, the event itself being well run and with a good venue but the conditions did make it uncomfortable to say the least.

The event organiser made us laugh when he announced ‘the farmer has been out with his tractor/ road scrubber clearing the sheep shit however some of the sheep are still there, so avoid the white fluffy things!’

It was a very competitive field as all the VO2 events are and we succeeded in avoiding last place, just. There was one DNF who I think had a puncture. I managed to overtake Les on the cycle and kept my nose out in front  achieving 31st place in 1hr 40m 20s  pipping Les to 32nd in a time of 1hr 41m 46s.

Thank goodness there was a medal!

That’ll teach us for venturing out only 3 days into the year...
