BUPA 10K - take 2 - with photos

Hi Folks

 

Last Monday Fiona, Les Potts and I took part in the London Bupa 10,000. It was a very well organized event and

took in many interesting sites around London starting and finishing on the Mall. I ran with Fiona and she managed to

beat me as I still have a bit of a calf problem but not by much. She managed 1hr 2 min and I was about a minute behind her.

Les did very well considering the crowds achieving 53 min. I was accompanied by my brother in law and his family.

Sian and Rhys while spectating managed to get into the presentation enclosure and Rhys even managed to get a close look at

Mo’s 1st prize plate. He had his T shirt signed too. Go Rhys......

BUPA London 10K

 

I and 11,000 other runners, including the Jones Family who unsurprisingly I didn’t bump into on the day, took part in the BUPA London 10,000 event on Bank Holiday Monday 27^th May 2013.

 

In all respects the event was superb. The organisation& marshals were great as were the supporting public and the bands along the route were brilliant. The goody bag wasn’t too bad either.

 

The event took part on closed roads around historic London with the race starting and finishing just outside Buckingham Palace .

 

Mo Farah won the race in 29m 13s with me trailing a further 3,318 places behind in 53m 31s.

Bedford Parkrun 25.05.13

 

Six members of FlitwickTri took part in the above event including our four newest members Liam Ko, Sarah Eke, David Smith, and Christina Eke.

 

The weather was ideal for running with two PB’s being achieved as follows:

 

Liam Ko            21m 31s – nearly 1 minute faster that previous PB set at MK last week and over 2 minutes quicker that previous Bedford PB,

Les Potts          25m 27s

David Smith       30m 56s – first timer

Sian Jones        37m 4s – New PB for Bedford

Sarah Eke         44m 8s – first timer

Christina Eke     44m 8s – first timer

Hitchin Nomads Cyclo Sportive

This morning I took part with my friend Andy in the Hitchin Nomads Cyclo Sportive. We did the 80K race rather then the longer 80 mile one.

The day was perfect for cycling as it was mild and dry with little wind. It was an interesting but undulating route which included the dreaded Hexton Hill (which I managed a PB on Strava up) and took in 48 miles of the scenic country lanes and villages of Hertfordshire including a brief stop at Emily's Tea Rooms in Whitwell (a popular cyclists' stopping off point). 

Things were going very well until after the food stop when Andy got a puncture. We managed to fit a new tube and set off to make up some of the lost time only for him to hit a raised manhole cover and get a double puncture (front and rear) which required us to repair one of them as we only had one spare tube left.

Overall we managed a moving time of 2 hours 55 minutes for the 48 mile course and an average speed of 16.4mph which I was happy enough with.

MK Parkrun - 18.05.13

Saturday saw a whopping 416 runners taking part in the MK Parkrun and Sian and Fiona Jones were there representing FlitwickTri with Fiona recording another PB.

Beat The Banana Run - 16.05.13

On Thursday evening a number of my colleagues, some clients and I took part in the World Cancer Research Fund's fundraising Beat The Banana Run in Hyde Park. The run was well supported with around 500 runners taking part and my colleagues and I raised over £550 for the charity.

With near perfect conditions and a fast client to run with I managed to get round the approx. 5K course in 20.29 to finish in 14th place and yes I did beat the banana.

Grant & Stone Marlow 5 - 12.05.13

With my colleague Liam I and 1,257 others took part in the above 5 mile (8.06km) race around the flat closed streets of Marlow.

 

It was superbly organised with many supportive marshals, and much encouragement from large crowds most of the way around the course. The day itself was ideal for running being bright and fresh, and virtually no wind. The goody bag was particularly impressive with excellent medal, high viz tech t-shirt, 2 x fruit, chocolate and other useful bits & pieces.

 

I was pleased with my time of 39m 24s averaging 4min53s/km. Only one 1k split was slower than 5min/k and that coincided with my now obligatory nose bleed!! My position being 409^th out of 1.259 finishers.

 

I would recommend the forthcoming High Wycombe 10k as it is organised and sponsored by the same team.

Bedford Parkrun 11.05.13

Ellen and I took part in Bedford Parkrun on Saturday and whilst the weather was bright there was a strong breeze against in the long bottom straight on each lap which didn't help as it came just before the slight incline past the swimming pool (excuses, excuses!).

I managed a time of 21.36 and Ellen came home in 36.07.

MIlton Keynes Parkrun - 11.05.13

With Pete injured and Les volunteering it was left to the Jones ladies to provide FlitwickTri's active runners at Milton Keynes Parkrun today.

Fiona was very unlucky to miss out on a PB  by 1 second with a time of 28.52 and Sian was also unlucky to miss out on a PB by 2 seconds. Fine running from both.

Les came in somewhat slower than usual as tail runner in 45.16.

Silverstone 10K - 08.05.13

Along with 1,048 other runners Jason & I took part in the above event on Wednesday 9^th May. Funnily enough we did not see each other at any point during the evening. Pete had earlier been forced to withdraw due to an injury picked up at Parkrun last Saturday.

 

Unfortunately I forgot my Garmin but it may have worked in my favor as I somehow managed to knock 3 minutes 13 seconds of my previous PB achieved recently at the Flitwick 10k. My chip time was 50m 25s with split times of 24m 16s & 26m 9s.

 

Jason chip time was 59m 25s with splits of 28m 47s & 30m 38s. This time was a massive 5m 13s improvement on the Flitwick 10k

 

The event was really well organized and apart from a cold windy shower at the start the conditions were pretty good for running.

Bedford Parkrun - 04.05.13

3 Flitwick Tri runners took part in Bedford Parkrun this Saturday and it was clearly a good day for running as both Les and Fiona achieved PBs and Sian was only 10 seconds off. Excellent running from all 3.
