Parkrun MK - 23.02.13

A very cool Saturday morning greeted 246 hardy parkrunners to Willen Lake. Amongst them were 3 members of FlitwickTri with Les trying to keep his amazing PB streak going.

No doubt due to his new more regular training regime Les did indeed achieve his 9th PB in 13 runs and broke the 25 minute barrier for the first time. Fiona is now up to 46 Parkruns and is getting very close to earning a coveted 50 run t-shirt.

Times were:

Les Potts           24.57

Pete Jones        25.00

Fiona Jones       30.03

Well done all three of you.

Chris

Last chance training

As a last opportunity to get a long run in before the half next week I decided to brave the falling snow yesterday (OK it was very light) and get my running kit on and get out training. I was  very pleased that the achilles tweak I felt on Wednesday's run didn't re-appear.

I managed a very chilly 7.7 miles at an average of 8.13 per mile which was good as I wasn't pushing it and the route had plenty of hills.

Willen Lake Training - 17.02.13

In ideal weather conditions Pete and I took the opportunity to get some “long run” training in in preparation for the Silverstone half in 2 weeks time.
Willen was still flooded with large parts of the course under water and several times it was necessary for us to do an about turn on finding our route submerged. We eventually found a route on the Redways and pavements/footpaths.
Probably as a result of having exerted ourselves at yesterdays Parkrun we both felt slightly heavy legged but nevertheless we did run 13.52k (8.4miles) in a time of 1h19m9s.
Les

And the miles continue.........

As I was due out on the bike on Sunday morning and had family commitments for most of Saturday I took advantage of the bright early morning on Saturday and headed out at 7.30am to put in some more miles in advance of the forthcoming half marathon (on 3 March).

To up the disatnce I decided to tag the loop down to Water End (from Maulden Raod near the Tidy Tip) onto my run from Flitwick to Ampthill and back, via Maulden Village Hall. I had thought it would be pretty flat but the climb up to Maulden Village was less than welcome especially given the other 3 hills that had to be negotiated to get into Ampthill.

All in all a good workout and another 9.57miles in the bank. Let's hope all the hard work pays off come race day.

Bedford Parkrun - 16.02.13

With MK Parkrun being cancelled due to large parts of the course being under water Pete, Sian Fiona & Les headed over to Bedford to compete.
There must have been many other MK “Parkrunners”also taking part as Bedford Parkrun achieved a record attendance of 186 runners with exactly one third getting PB’s.
It was ideal running conditions in that there was no wind, and a fresh but comfortable temperature and sunny.
And boy did we compete – Pete set a new PB for Bedford coming in at 24m 33s knocking 26 seconds off his previous, likewise Fiona also set a new PB of 29m 32s, a massive 1m 59s improvement on her previous best set in 2011. Sian ran Bedford for the first time achieving a commendable 38 minutes exactly. I also had a very good day setting a new Parkrun PB of 24m 35s. This is 67 seconds faster that my previous PB at Bedford and 45 seconds faster that PB at MK set only last week. That’s my 8th PB out of the last 12 timed Parkruns at MK & Bedford –proof that all the extra training for longer races is paying dividends.

More half marathon preparations

This morning saw 4 brave/foolhardy (delete as appropriate) FlitwickTri members running at Willen Lake as part of their build up for longer events. The wind had thankfully dropped considerably but the rain arrived to make it a rather dismal morning.

Pete and Fiona covered the 10K they were aiming for as part of Fiona's build up to some 10K races. Les managed the 3 laps he had planned plus a little extra which took his run up to around 8 miles. I decided to cut what was to be lap 4 in half and go between the lakes so Les wouldn't be waiting too long for me but with the last bit up the slope beside the Peace Pagoda I managed 9.4 miles.

Another productive if soggy morning which will hopefully reap rewards when we get to the races in the coming months.

Chris.

This would make a challenging ride!

Lois came across this photo of a road in Australia called Kangaroo Road. I'm sure it would be amazing to cylce but the legs would probably be a bit fried by the end.

Parkrun MK - 09.02.13

A chilly but thankfully dry Willen Lake greeted 4 FlitwickTri members for this week's Parkrun. There was another big turnout with 327 runners taking part.

Les set yet another PB, his 6th in 9 runs, and I was pleased to get back under 22 minutes for the first time since my injury last year.

Times were:

Chris Wright          21.50
Pete Jones            25.13
Les Potts              25.20
Sian Jones            38.20

Well done all.

FlitwickTri training run MK - 03.02.13.

A cold Sunday morning at 8.30am saw another gathering at Willen Lake for a training run to put some more miles in the legs in advance of  some longer distance races to come in the next few months.

This week we had 5 FlitwickTri members taking part despite 4 of them having raced on Saturday. Chris covered 3 laps of both lakes (7.5 miles) while Pete, Fiona, Les and Jason did 2 laps (5 miles).

Hopefully we will be out again early next Sunday morning for another training run at the same venue.

Eton Duathlon - 02.02.13

Pete and I ventured further afield on Saturday to take part in the first duathlon of the year at Eton Dorney Lake. As with last year's race it was windy and cold but at least this year it was dry.

There was a good entry and the longer event we were taking part in (5K, 20K, 5K) had a high standard of competitors again.

Despite the cold and tough conditions both Pete and I knocked more than 2 minutes of last year's times.

Times were:

Chris Wright          22.50/39.47/25.22 = 1.30.19
Pete Jones            25.24/43.09/29.09 = 1.38.19

Parkrun MK - 02.02.13

This Saturday saw 3 FlitwickTri members in action at the Milton Keynes Parkrun. The day was cold and windy but that didn't stop Les getting yet another PB which shows his increased training is paying dividends.

Times were:

Les Potts            25.29
Fiona Jones        30.05
Sian Jones          40.23

Well done all.
