Parkrun MK - 28.04.12

Well done to Les for setting a new PB of 29.28 at the Milton Keynes parkrun on Saturday despite the very windy conditions. Sian and Pete also ran with Sian coming home in 39.07 and Pete (who was volunteering as tail runner) in 42.58.

I understand that the weather stayed dry for the run which seems something of a miracle given the dreadful weather which seemed to last for most of the weekend.

Wash and blow (but sadly not) dry.

Well there we were at 6.30 on a Sunday morning with cars laden down with bikes and assorted triathlon kit ready for the first race of the Bedford Sprint Series 2012. Unfortunately Mother Nature decided that the drought was not something she favoured and over the last few days, and especially last night and this morning, did her best to rectify the water shortage by dumping inches of rain on Bedford and the surrounding countryside.

Coupled with gale force winds the standing water on roads made conditions unsafe and the organisers took the sensible decision to cancel the event. One of the guys who cycled to the event said he had been blown off his bike on the way which reinfoced the decision.

The organisers were happy to defer entries to the May or October events so we will be back to try again on what will, hopefully, be calmer and drier days.

Cycletta 2012

I am suprised it has taken so long for Lois to catch the bug but on Sunday 13th May she is doing the Cycletta, a women only bike ride.  The route starts at Woburn and goes 40km around the lanes of Bedfordshire.  Lois is doing this for the charity Brain Tumour Research in support of her friend Sarah who is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour and also to celebrate 5 years since Lois finished her own treatment for breast cancer.

Sponsorship is welcome - just go to http://www.justgiving.com/Lois-Wright0

Dan's Ironman training camp

Well, I spent my Saturday around Wimbleball Lake in Exmoor at a training camp for the Ironman 70.3. At 7am the car thermometer read -2 degrees, there was frost on the grass, puddles were frozen and the lake was covered in mist ... and I was putting my wetsuit on! Madness. I have never been so cold, and none of us really lasted long enough for a proper swim. However, I am determined to get around the course on the day and I have now signed up for the 5km Box End swim on 5th May; check out Flitwick Tri on the entries http://www.galeforce-events.com/mass-start-swim-1-entries-to-date/.
Anyway, back to Exmoor. Following the swim (did I mention it was cold?) we then went for a 28-mile ride on fairly hilly terrain, where I found out just how bike-fit I am not. The run was one lap of the 3-lap course which we will do on the day: a beautiful, off-road, hilly jaunt around the lake. I thoroughly recommend the lake even if you're not doing the Ironman race; there is a nice, small camp site and you could have a very nice holiday there.
Cheers,
Dan

Bedford Triathlon 2012 & MK Marathon

Six members of FlitwickTri will be taking part in Bedford Triathlon this weekend. Three of us did it last year and it is good to see even more people taking part this time. Jon and Penny will be doing their first triathlon (without buggy and dog!) and we hope they enjoy it.

On the same day Jason is running in the Milton Keynes Marathon and hopes to complete it in under 5 hours - you can do it Jason!  We'll have a cup of tea ready and waiting for you!

Flitwick 10k

It was good to see 6 members of FliwickTri in action at our local 10K on 15th April. We certainly stood out with our colourful club shirts! Well done to Les for completing his first 10K and to everyone else for achieving good times on an undulating course.
