St George's Day Run - Stanwick - 28.04.13

With my colleague Liam I took part in the above half marathon event at Stanwick Lakes on a course that was multi terrain albeit on relatively good surfaces and flat. The weather was good for running.
I clocked an OK time of 1:57:42. However this was disappointing insomuch as I could not maintain a good outward 10k of 52m 35s (quicker then Flitwick 10k) on the return 11k, those taking 65m 7s with 5 of the 1k splits being slower than 6min/k. The outward 10k averaged 5m 25s/k compared to 5m 55s/k average on the return 11k.
The fast start did not do me any favours in the end and it was probably unwise to run Bedford Parkrun the day before.

Bedford Parkrun - 27.04.13

Three of us headed off to Bedford this morning for the weekly Parkrun. The weather was a buit dismal and quite chilly.

For the Wright family things started badly when I realised I'd forgotten the barcodes (Doh!!!) and so I agreed to run with Ellen so she could get a time off my Garmin. Unfortunately she had a problem with her calf one and a half laps into the run and had to pull out.

Les was taking things easy ahead of a half marathon tomorrow and finished in a time of 25.49 looking comfortable.

A huge field of 395 at the Milton Keynes Parkrun included 4 FlitwickTri members today.

Fiona became the 3rd member of the Jones family to hit 50 Parkruns and celebrated with a PB. Excellent stuff.

Times were:

Fiona Jones                28.51
Pete Jones                 28.52
Jason Murphy             29.41
Sian Jones                 38.39

Well done all!

Duston Triathlon 21.04.13

Hi Folks

This morning I took part in my first Duston Triathlon near Northampton. It was sunny but not too hot, ideal really. ‘Just Racing’ organised the event well and we all had fun.

I finished the 400mswim, 20kcycle, 5k run in 1hr 26 min, not a pb but not far off, so it bodes well for the season.

Did manage to twinge my calf a bit in the last 300m though. I would recommend it, though be weary there are some hills on the cycle route. The stretch of road in the image is actually vertical!

Flitwick 10K - 14.04.13

Well the day dawned bright and sunnyfor our local race, the Flitwick 10K, but unfortunately with a bit more wind than would have been ideal. A couple of parts of the course were made much harder as a result (for me at least!). 786 runners took part which was a great turnout for a very well organised race.

The race clearly brought out the best in some of our 5 runners with Les managing an excellent 53.38 despite the tough conditions and Fiona having a superb debut at this distance with a time of 62.55 (and with a storming sprint finish at the end of her run).

Sian was around offering support and encouragement and also taking photos which I have now added.

Times and places were as follows:

Chris Wright          212th            47.30
Les Potts               393rd            53.38
Pete Jones            437th            54.54
Fiona Jones           636th            62.55
Jason Murphy        670th            64.38

Very well done to all!

Wolf Run 2013 - 06.04.13

Hi Folks

Last Saturday I travelled up to a farm near Leamington Spa to take part in the Wolf Run 2013.

This is a 10k obstacle race. I took part with my brother in law and 3 other friends who were up for the challenge.

They had to cancel the lake swim but the lake wade was so deep it nearly came to my shoulders so I got just as chilled. The other obstacles mud crawls, trees scrambles, net climbs, water slides and river crossings were a doddle after that. We helped each other around in about 90 min and had great fun.

I would recommend this to anyone and I certainly intend to do another later in the year hopefully with Fiona and Sian as they fancy it too. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

The Quattro Cyclo Sportive - 07.04.13

This morning saw me head off to Northampton for The Quattro Sportive around the roads and lanes of 4 counties (hence the name). I did the race with my friend Andy and we opted for the 63 mile route. Overall it was undulating rather than hilly but it did keep a sting in the tail with the 2 toughest hills in the last 3 miles with the last one only 400 yards or so from home the toughest.

It was good that the weather was kind to us and to get the first long ride of the year out of the way. We managed the 63.6 miles at an average of 15.5 mph.

Overall a well run event with a well planned route.

Richmond Half Marathon - 31 March 2013

I took part in the inaugural Richmond13.1 Half Marathon on Sunday 31st March 2013.
It necessitated a very early start what with a 9am race start time and losing the hour with the arrival of British Summer Time. However the weather was ideal for running being fresh, windless and with some sunshine! The race itself was 50% on roads and 50% on fields & towpaths, starting& finishing in the Old Deer Park with much of the race along side the River Thames.
It was a flat course but much of the off road parts were uneven and muddy / large puddles.
I completed the course in 1h 56m 36c coming in at number 781 out of 1320 finishers.

Les Potts             27.33
