Gayton 10K - 26.01.14

I took part in the Gayton 10k run on Sunday. The weather at the start was particularly unpleasant – strong wind and heavy rain. Registration took place in a barn using torchlight because the competitors had all crammed in out of the rain blocking out the light.

The first half of the race was mainly downhill with the wind behind us which led to the inevitable uphill into the wind in the second half. At least the rain eased slightly during the race to a mild downpour.

Beforehand, I had been aiming to get under 50 mins but realised that was unlikely in the conditions. I was officially timed at 50.45 though my watch showed about a minute more than that (but also recorded 10.3km) for a finishing position of 31 out of an unsurprisingly small field of 89.

Bedford Parkrun - 25.01.14

This morning the FlitwickTri outing to Bedford Parkrun had some new faces. Les's daughter Emily was taking part for the first time and along with Jack Wilkinson. Jack hadn't registered so didn't get an official time. Emily was running with her sister's barcode so the results show Chloe's name.

The conditions were pretty much ideal for running  although there were a lot of puddles to dodge.

The times were:

Chris Wright          21.35
Jack Wilkinson       23.59 (est)
Pete Jones            24.06
Les Potts               24.35
Emily Potts            34.28

Well done all.

Fred Hughes 10 mile - 18.01.14

I received reports of this event from both Pete and Les so here is a hybrid of the two.

Today we took part in our first Fred Hughes 10 mile road race in St Albans.  It was a perfect day for running cool and dry, except underfoot where there were a few puddles. We had to run on  their alternative course as part of their main route was still flooded and the alternate route was run entirely on deserted country lanes.

The event seemed to be popular with club runners with probably 80% of the 700 or so runners representing running clubs so we knew we were in a quality field. In fact the first 52 finishers all achieved average speeds of 3.something minutes per kilometre.

Fortunately today it was a respectable 6 degrees with no breeze and no rain and hence no excuses.

Prior to the race we both set ourselves the same target of finishing in less than 90 minutes. In the end our times were Pete 1hr 28min 18sec (437th out of 662) and Les 1hr 24min 41sec (366th out of 662).

As I was wearing my Flitwick Tri top it is probably not so strange but a runner caught me up and asked if I knew Dan Georgescu. He also told me that he met our Evil Coach at the Ampthill Trophy race. I believe he was called John, formerly of Harlington.

Bedford Parkrun - 18.01.14

This morning three of us ventured to Bedford for the Parkrun. With Pete doing a 10 mile run on Sunday he ran with Sian.

Conditions were actually pretty good with little wind and paths drier underfoot than expected given recent rain. Another good turnout overall with 272 people taking part.

Times were:

Chris Wright                22.05
Sian Jones                   36.24
Pete Jones                  36.29.

Bedford Parkrun - 11.01.14

A lovely sunny morning and a cancelled run at Milton Keynes meant a record turnout at Bedford Parkrun this morning as 290 runners took part. Of these 5 were FlitwickTri members with another, Les, volunteering.

Overall it was good to be out running in such good conditions and in such pleasant surroundings. The cakes, drinks and sweets at the finish which were kindly donated by a runner celebrating his 50th birthday were an added bonus.

Times were:

Steve Clough                     23.19
Pete Jones                        24.59
Fiona Jones                       26.26
Chris Wright                      26.27
Sian Jones                         37.06

Well done all.

Bushy Park, Parkrun. 04.01.14

Hi Folks

On Sat 4th we ventured down to the heart of Parkrun, Bushy Park. Doing the original event with some many others was great fun. Although the weather getting there was awful the run itself was dry. However with over 500 runners on a grassy start it was rather a scrum. That being said it could have been a PB course as only the first and last  k  were on grass. Yesterday though it was rather slushy with lots of puddles so none of us or my brother in law's family, who we were meeting, achieved a PB.  Still a nice course to do and well worth the trip, running around the deer park outside Hampton Court Palace.

Times were Pete Jones- 27.28 ,  Sian Jones - 39.21  and Fiona Jones - 30.23

Bedford Parkrun - 04.01.14

It was rather soggy this morning at Bedford Parkrun both underfoot and from overhead but thankfully the wind was quite light. Three of us took part but the conditions meant no PBs were likely, or in fact possible.

The times were:

Chris Wright                   22.48
Steve Clough                  23.22
Les Potts                        25.20

St Albans Parkrun - 01.01.14

This morning Les, Pete and I ventured over to St Albans to take part in the New Year's Day Parkrun. Rather than running this over the usual course the race was run over their cross country route which was very muddy and slippery as a result of the recent heavy rain.

Despite the difficult conditions Les managed a new PB which was very impressive.

The times were:

Chris Wright      23.15
Les Potts           25.26
Pete Jones        27.01
