Hi Folks
On Sunday morning Les and I went over to a place called Bledlow Ridge to run in the Ridge Off Roader trail run. There were 2 available distances for adults 10k and 6.2k. As the name suggest the trail run ventures up and down hills and along ridges. On this first attempt I am very glad we opted for the shorter distance.
At about 2k I was faced with what appeared to be the side of a mountain! Like lemmings we traipsed upwards and it beat me....It was difficult to over take people on the track but even so my legs were screaming.
Once up onto the ridge it was a lovely run through woodlands and meadows with views on both sides but having taken the shorter loop and heading back I know the village we started from was on top of the hill.. beaten again and with aching legs I was about to reach the top when the leaders on the 10k race overtook me. Now that really hurt!
Having finished the race we enjoyed a nice breakfast / sausage bap whilst waiting for my friend Colin from work to finish.
The race is hosted by the primary school to raise funds and I would recommend it as it was a lot of fun. Though next time hill training prior to the event will be in order.
In the 6.5k race Les Potts achieved 10th place in 38:24, I came in 17th in 41:44 with Colin fishing in about 44 minutes.
I am seriously going to go back and BEAT those hills! If anyone fancies a real challenge feel free to join me next year.
